Prayers, presence, gifts, service & witness

Church membership promises that Peachtree Road will support your lifelong faith journey as a Christian and provide a loving, nurturing community. Members support that community through their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. These commitments enable us to participate fully and faithfully in the life of the church.

  • Prayers
We believe in the power of prayer not only to transform others but ourselves.

  • Presence
We are united as one body, and being present for those who cannot attend church is work for us all.

  • Gifts
Faithful financial support provides a necessary and strong foundation for our ministries.

  • Service
Service to others changes your point of view and makes the world a better place.

  • Witness
Witnessing could be as simple as answering someone’s questions or inviting them to a special worship service or event.

Behaviors & Beliefs

“…let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Behaviors

At Peachtree Road, we are guided by and committed to the beliefs of Christian and Methodist traditions. Prefacing our beliefs, we recognize basic behaviors that serve as touchstones of Whose we are.

As a congregation of Christian integrity:

  • We take responsibility for our actions.
  • We protect the unity of the church.
  • We respect others’ point of view.

Beliefs

The United Methodist Book of Discipline details our Christian beliefs and our Methodist emphases, some of which are paraphrased here:

We believe in God as creator and nurturer of all things past, present and future.

We believe in eternal grace given to us through the resurrected Christ.

We believe in the church as the visible expression of the Body of Christ.

We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is with us and awakens us to God’s purpose.

We believe in baptism and communion and being part of a universal church through them.

We believe in good works and service as a vital part of our faith practice.

Our Mission

The mission of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world.

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” – Matthew 28:18-20

Our mission is taken directly from Jesus’s Great Commission to the original disciples. Jesus chose people from different backgrounds who could be changed by his love and who could then communicate that acceptance was available to everyone. Jesus connected the disciples to God, taught them how to minister to others using their unique gifts, and trusted them to carry on spreading the Good News of salvation. We believe we are called and equipped to do this.
