The Dreaded “C” Word

“Years ago, my husband, Wit, read The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee. The title intrigued me. Having lost my mother, a grandfather and a grandmother to cancer, I thought what a fitting way to describe this terrible, scary, widely variable disease. November 26, 2021, I heard the dreaded “C” word from an emergency room doctor telling me my initial scans looked like cancer. Cancer touches so many, and the news can be crushing.
