DISCIPLE Bible Study

A transformative small group experience

DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined Bible study that works to create community, engage in deep conversation about Scripture, and provide spiritual transformation. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.

One of our core values here at Peachtree Road UMC is that we take the Bible seriously and we encourage all members to participate in the transformational study of scripture both individually and communally. The DISCIPLE Bible Study program has been life giving and life changing for many, and we invite everyone to consider engaging in studying scripture together this fall.

Disciple I Fast Track

Sundays, 6:00 pm, C106
Starting September 8  |  24 weeks

Led by Ed Hamlin

Disciple I Fast Track enhances understanding through scholarly work, personal Bible study, and group discussions. It equally emphasizes the Old and New Testaments, highlighting the Bible’s unity as God’s revelation. The class meets for 12 weeks in the fall for the Old Testament, takes a winter break, and resumes for 12 weeks in January for the New Testament.

Invitation to the Old Testament

Sundays, 5:00 pm, C104
Starting September 8  |  8 weeks

Led by Deidra Harrell

This 8-week study delves into the Old Testament’s story of God and Israel, exploring Creation hymns, laws, wisdom teachings, prophetic warnings, and the poetry of the Song of Solomon. Participants will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Old Testament as integral to the Bible and renew their discovery of their identity in God and God’s vision for all things.

Invitation to the New Testament

Sundays, 5:00 pm, C104
Starting January 6  |  8 weeks

Led by Deidra Harrell

Explore the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. This survey of the testament looks at how the early church took ownership of and was shaped by the story of Jesus and how the church learned how to develop as disciples and create communities of faith. Accessible for those with little prior Bible experience, participants will gain personal and communal insights.

Disciple IV

Sundays, 6:00 pm, C102
Starting September 8  |  32 weeks

Led by Rev. Geoff and Leigh Beakley

This 32 week study concentrates on Old Testament Writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude, and finally, Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book leads naturally to an emphasis on worship in the study. Present through the entire study is the sense of living toward completion as pictured in Revelation – invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, and rest – home at last. Previous Disciple Bible Study (Disciple I, II, III, IV) is recommended but not required.

Invitation to Genesis

Sundays, 5:00 pm, C101
Starting September 8  |  10 weeks

Led by Mason and Kelly Brannon

This study delves into Genesis, exploring interactions between God and humans through stories of Creation, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Rebekah, and Joseph.  By reading two chapters of Genesis each week, participants will encounter life-altering stories that invite them to follow Christ as true disciples.
