Like many of you, Wendie and I were shaken by the news of the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life at a political rally in Pennsylvania yesterday. As people of faith, we condemn all political violence. It has no place in our society!

I call upon every member of Peachtree Road UMC to join me in prayer – prayer for the full recovery of former President Trump and for his family; prayer for the families of the one who died and those critically injured at the rally; and prayer for our nation.

Now is the time for all Americans to step back from the divisions that grip our nation and threaten to tear us apart and use this tragedy as a sobering moment to move toward that more perfect union envisioned by our founders. In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, let us pray: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light…”
